We have always installed smart locks alongside our traditional residential and commercial work, but in 2026 the demand has shifted. New construction in Hampton Cove and Madison ships with smart-ready prep. Property managers in Decatur are asking for cloud-based credentials instead of mechanical keys. Hampton Cove homeowners are mixing Schlage Encode on the front with old-school deadbolts on the back. The portfolio of smart hardware we install and support has grown to match.

This is a quick rundown of what we now cover, who we serve, and what we have learned about the brands worth installing.

## The Expanded List

Our

electronic access and smart locks

service now covers, across the full Madison, Limestone, Morgan, Jackson, and Marshall county area:

**Residential smart deadbolts and keypads**

- Schlage Encode (Wi-Fi)
- Yale Assure (Bluetooth and Wi-Fi)
- August Smart Lock and Smart Lock Pro
- Kwikset Halo
- Level Lock (invisible smart lock retrofits)

**Commercial keypad and prox access**

- HID Global readers and credentials
- Brivo cloud-based access control
- ProdataKey (PDK) cloud-based systems
- Schlage commercial keypad locks
- Adams Rite electric strikes for storefront doors

**Biometric and high-security**

- Fingerprint scanners for restricted areas
- RFID/NFC card and fob systems
- Integrations with existing alarm and video systems

## Who Is Asking

The mix of who calls us for smart-lock work has been steady this spring:

**Hampton Cove and SE Huntsville homeowners.** This is our biggest smart-lock market. Master-planned community, newer builds, smart-ready prep on most doors. Schlage Encode and Yale Assure are the dominant picks.

**Madison and Town Madison families.** Often a single smart deadbolt on the front entry, with traditional Grade 1 deadbolts on the back and garage. Practical, balanced security.

**Decatur and Hartselle property managers.** Mixed-unit landlords moving away from mechanical keys for turnover speed. Cloud-based keypads make a tenant switchover a 30-second credential update instead of a half-day rekey.

**Huntsville small businesses.** Coffee shops, fitness studios, and small offices that want audit trails and easy credential revocation when staff change.

## Brands We Trust (and Brands We Don’t)

After enough installs, you start to see which models hold up to Alabama summer humidity and which ones do not. A few honest notes from the field:

- **Schlage Encode** is our default residential pick. Strong physical lock, solid Wi-Fi, and a clean app. The backlight on the keypad has a long service life.
- **Yale Assure** is excellent if your home has a smart home hub. The Bluetooth/Wi-Fi modular design lets you upgrade connectivity without replacing the lock.
- **August** retrofits work well on existing deadbolts and are a good choice for renters. They sit on the inside of the door so the exterior looks unchanged.
- **Kwikset Halo** is a solid budget option but battery life is shorter — plan on twice-yearly replacement.
- **Brivo and PDK** are our cloud-based commercial preferences. Reliable, well-supported, and the audit logs are easy to query when something goes wrong.

We do not recommend the cheapest no-name keypads from big-box stores. The hardware fails in 18-24 months, and the firmware updates stop almost immediately.

## ”Are Smart Locks Actually Safe?”

We get this question on every install. The short answer is yes, with caveats — and we cover the long answer in our

smart lock safety and reliability guide

.

The biggest real-world risks are not hacking; they are weak codes, dead batteries, and bad installs. We default to:

- 6-digit codes (not 4)
- Low-battery alerts enabled
- A mechanical key backup on most residential models
- Proper strike-plate reinforcement so the physical security tier isn’t downgraded

## What an Install Looks Like

A typical residential smart deadbolt visit:

1. **Walk the door.** Check the existing deadbolt prep, latch type, and door thickness. Most residential doors take a standard smart deadbolt with no modification.
2. **Install hardware.** Replace the existing deadbolt with the new smart lock. Reinforce the strike plate while we are there.
3. **Set up the app and codes.** Connect to Wi-Fi or hub, set the master code, and create codes for family or guests.
4. **Walk through the override.** Show you the mechanical key backup, low-battery alert behavior, and how to factory-reset if you ever need to.

Total visit: about 45-60 minutes for a single deadbolt with proper strike-plate work.

Commercial installs vary based on doors, wiring, and credential type, so we always start with a walkthrough.
